Missing your monthly culture fix?
Monday 06 April 2020

Guessing that you are missing your cultural fix at the monthly lectures, you will be pleased to know that the Arts Society has launched its new website this week to keep Members in touch with the arts and each other whilst they are in isolation.

It is a great opportunity to enjoy the arts at home with a series of films by Arts Society Accredited Lecturers, released every fortnight. The first lecture, available now, is an insight into Las Meninas by Velazquez from lecturer Dr. Jacqueline Cockburn.  Running time: 17 minutes.  To hear the lecture and check out the new website, click on the following link: https://www.connected.theartssociety.org/

Upcoming lectures:

  • Sarah Dunant: 21 April
  • Mark Hill: 5 May
  • Nicola Moorby: 19 May
  • Marc Allum: 2 June
  • Rebecca Hossack: 16 June
  • Sandy Burnett: 30 June

During April the National Theatre will be streaming, free of charge, live shows on YouTube at 7pm every Thursday and available on demand for 7 days on the NT's YouTube channel:

OPERA AND BALLET

The Royal Opera House has launched a programme of broadcasts and live content, from productions to masterclasses.  The programme will include four productions, available on demand and free of charge, via the ROH’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/RoyalOperaHouse

These include the Royal Ballet’s 2010 production of Peter and the Wolf and its 2013 staging of The Metamorphosis, as well as Royal Opera productions of Acis and Galatea in 2009 and Così Fan Tutte in 2010.

Elsewhere, through ROH’s partnership with the BBC documentaries including Pappano’s Greatest Arias and Darcey Bussell; Looking for Margot will be available free of charge on BBC iPlayer, in addition to the Royal Ballet’s production of Mayerling.
