Young Arts was set up to provide children and young people with exciting opportunities to get involved in creative arts activities.  Our work with young people helps to expand their horizons and build a lasting enthusiasm for the arts.   The Arts Society Sudbury, as a registered charity, provides grants or sponsorship each year and in this past year, we have directed support as follows.

As part of our support to encourage young people’s participation in and enjoyment of the arts, in 2018 we were delighted to make a grant of £1,000 to support the Gainsborough’s House project to develop a national centre celebrating the life of Thomas Gainsborough.

Our grant will be used towards providing a ‘camera obscura’ within the new Landscape Studio to explore how the landscape can be seen and interpreted, related to the landscapes of Gainsborough and Constable. It is expected that this will provide a unique resource particularly for local school children and families, encouraging them to enjoy, appreciate and be inspired by their local heritage.
